Abstract:'Repeating earthquakes',identified by cross-correlation of seismic waveforms, are found to be much more abundant in nature than conventionally expected. In recent years, with the development of digital seismic networks, waveform correlation and 'repeating earthquake' have drawn much attention in measuring crustal media variation, assessing the location accuracy at the network and estimating fault slip rates at depth or earthquake recurrence. Moreover,as a useful tool,'repeating earthquake' approach has also been used in the study of the assessment of phase picking accuracy, hypocenter location, the temporal variation of structures, physics of earthquake source as well as earthquake prediction. In this paper,we summarize the latest research about the application of 'repeating earthquakes'.[著者文摘]
